Bahçem Tamam, Eren Peyzaj, SB Şömine, and Solak Fidan, prominent producers of ornamental plants and landscaping materials in Sakarya, Turkey, will be participating in the LANDSCAPE ISTANBUL FAIR 2023 / 2nd Istanbul Landscape, Landscape Materials, Ornamental Plants, Parks, and Gardens Fair, which will take place at the Istanbul Fair Center (IFM) from November 16th to 18th, 2023.
Sakarya ranks second in Turkey in terms of area-based ornamental plant production with 1009 hectares and an 18% share. However, its share in exports is only 3%. Approximately 5,000 landscaping and ornamental plant professionals from around 40 countries are expected to visit LIF 2023, where Sakarya-based producers are gearing up to strike deals with numerous domestic and international companies.
In Turkey, ornamental plant production covers a total area of 5,687 hectares, with 70% dedicated to outdoor plants and 26% to cut flowers. Sakarya holds a special place in ornamental plant production. Sakarya ranks second in Turkey in terms of area-based ornamental plant production with 1009 hectares and an 18% share.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly, Sakarya’s ornamental plant exports are increasing year by year. In 2022, they saw a 26% increase compared to the previous year, reaching a total of $4,167,000 in exports. Leading ornamental plant and landscaping producers from Sakarya will be participating in the LANDSCAPE ISTANBUL FAIR 2023 / 2nd Istanbul Landscape, Landscape Materials, Ornamental Plants, Parks, and Gardens Fair, scheduled for November 16th to 18th, 2023, at the Istanbul Fair Center (IFM). So far, Bahçem Tamam, Eren Peyzaj, SB Şömine, and Solak Fidan have reserved a total area of 329 square meters at the fair, with the expectation of more Sakarya-based participants joining before the event.
Sakarya’s potential is high due to its ecological conditions, which are highly suitable for ornamental plant cultivation. It enjoys a significant advantage, especially in the time it takes to grow seedlings compared to other regions. Mustafa Gültekin Gökgül, the organizer of LANDSCAPE ISTANBUL FAIR (LIF) 2023 and Chairman of Athena Fuarcılık, emphasized Sakarya’s immense potential in this sector, stating, “Sakarya ranks second in our country in terms of production area. However, it only has a 3% share in the total export of $137 million. $4,167,000 in exports is well below Sakarya’s potential. LIF 2023 offers significant opportunities for Sakarya’s producers to turn their existing potential into exports. This is because thousands of procurement professionals from both domestic and international markets will come together with producer companies at LIF 2023. Additionally, the fair will feature numerous leading global brands and manufacturers that will not be present at any other event in Turkey, but will exclusively participate in LIF 2023. We believe that Sakarya companies will sign significant deals at the fair, thereby increasing Sakarya’s share in exports.”
