Konak Mayor Abdul Batur, who participated in the ceremony held by the Konak District Governorate at the Halkapınar Independence Martyrs’ Cemetery on the occasion of the 18 March Çanakkale Naval Victory and Martyrs’ Memorial Day, issued a message and said, “Our homeland, which our heroes protect until the last drop of their blood, is entrusted to us. The epic written by our heroes is unforgettable, Çanakkale is impassable.”
The 108th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory was celebrated in Konak. Konak Mayor Abdul Batur attended the ceremony held by Konak District Governorship at Halkapınar Independence Martyrs’ Cemetery on the occasion of the 18 March Çanakkale Naval Victory and Martyrs’ Day. Konak District Governor Gökhan Görgülüarslan, Garrison Commander Staff Colonel Levent Karamalak and Konak Mayor Abdül Batur laid wreaths on the monument at the ceremony that started with a minute of silence for the martyrs and the National Anthem. Konak District Police Chief Özgür Arslan, Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyrs, Widows and Orphans Association İzmir Branch representatives, veterans and citizens also attended the ceremony.
“We owe our days to this supreme struggle”
Publishing a message on the occasion of the 18 March Çanakkale Naval Victory and Martyrs’ Remembrance Day, Konak Mayor Abdül Batur noted that he commemorates all heroes and veterans, especially the Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their homeland, with love, respect and mercy. Batur included the following statements in his message:
“We owe our days to this outstanding struggle fought by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in the Battle of Çanakkale. Çanakkale Victory ignited the freedom struggle of a warring nation by uniting all together, regardless of young or old, men or women. Çanakkale is not just a won war, it is a glorious victory that has affected world history, it is an epic. Our homeland, which our heroes protect to the last drop of their blood, is also entrusted to us. The epic written by our heroes is unforgettable, Çanakkale is impassable.”
The bite spilled
On the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the 18 March Çanakkale Naval Victory, Konak Municipality also gave a bite to the martyrs who died for their homeland and the citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake. Konak Mayor Abdül Batur and Konak City Council members, neighborhood headmen and many citizens attended the charity event held in the historical Kemeraltı Bazaar and Kıbrıs Şehitleri Street.
