The Metropolitan Municipality of Kocaeli continues to work without interruption to make the services it provides to our disabled citizens more accessible. In order to make existing structures, transportation systems and information systems “accessible,” the Metropolitan Municipality, which carries out work for this purpose, has installed a battery charging station for the newly opened Kocaeli City Hospital, which is aimed at the use of citizens who use wheelchairs.
SOCIAL PARTICIPATION
Previously, stations were opened for citizens to use in Izmit Cumhuriyet Boulevard across from Fevziye Mosque, Yeni Cuma and Industry Vocational High School to facilitate the social participation of citizens using battery-powered wheelchairs. The Metropolitan Municipality, which makes accessibility services accessible to disabled individuals in the city where they live, has also provided one electric wheelchair charging station each in Darıca Balyanoz Camp, in front of Kartepe Municipality, Kandıra Bus Terminal, in front of Başiskele Municipality, Gölcük Monument Park, in front of Karamürsel District Governorate and Bus Station, Derince Municipality City Square, Körfez Tütünciftlik Beach and Disabled Association, Hereke Campus, Çayırova Naim Süleymanoğlu Cultural Center, in front of Fatih Cad. Taxi Station, in front of Gebze Municipality, next to ATMs, in Akse Square park, in front of Beylikbağı Science and Art Center Security Point, and officials have stated that charging stations for battery-powered wheelchairs will be planned for suitable areas in each district.
3 VEHICLES CAN BE CHARGED SIMULTANEOUSLY
Battery charging stations, which enable disabled individuals to come to the city center without hesitation, were built to protect disabled citizens from the effects of rain and sun. The covered stations are designed to allow three disabled vehicles to charge simultaneously. The charging stations, which have fast charging feature and can select the amperage of the wheelchair battery, allow disabled individuals to charge their battery-powered vehicles without paying any fees, which enables them to spend more time in social areas. Citizens who charge their vehicles can also watch information visuals and videos from the LCD screen installed on the charging station.
