The story of the iconic doll Barbie, which created a pink frenzy worldwide, continues to break records at the box office. Barbie, which met with audiences on Friday, July 21, is the highest-grossing film of this summer, surpassing one billion dollars in global box office revenue on its 17th day. Additionally, the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, made history as the highest-grossing female director in cinema history. In Turkey, Barbie, which has surpassed one million viewers, is available in 332 cinemas with 620 screens through TME Films distribution.
The most anticipated film of the year, Barbie, has surpassed one billion dollars in box office revenue on its 17th day. The film, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, has earned $459.4 million in the United States and $572.1 million internationally.
Warner Bros Local Distribution President Jeff Goldstein and International Distribution President Andrew Cripps announced that Barbie’s global box office sales have reached $1.0315 billion. Warner Bros. officials stated that Barbie’s success exceeded expectations and said, “This achievement is a milestone for the iconic toy Barbie’s story that spans generations. We are excited to see how much further Barbie can grow in the real world.”
Made history as the highest-grossing female director
The statement emphasized that Barbie is the highest-grossing film of this summer and highlighted the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, as the highest-grossing female director in cinema history. The film also became the fastest to reach $500 million in international daily, weekly, and weekend box office earnings.
Barbie, which has also drawn attention with its cast, features various versions of characters portrayed by actors such as Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kingsley Ben-Adir alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles.
