This week, the address for an enjoyable conversation where art and literature intertwine was in Cihangir. In the new episode of the program “Eylül Aşkın ile…”, host Eylül Aşkın brought viewers together with Arzu Kökçü, the founder of FOV Concept. Located on Susam Street, which hosts the artistic fabric of Cihangir, FOV Concept stands out not only as an art space but also as a center for production and sharing.
A Journey Beginning with Glass
Kökçü, who stepped into the art of glass with curiosity, expressed that over time, this field became an indispensable passion for her. The artist stated that the hours-long work at the torch taught her the value of patience and discipline, explaining the essence of this journey with these words: “Shaping glass isn’t actually difficult, but it requires a lot of patience. You need to stay by the fire for hours. That process both challenges and strengthens you.”
An Adventure Extending from a Literary Background to Art
Kökçü, who worked in academia and translation in linguistics and literature during her university years, stated that she initially built her life entirely on this discipline. However, the allure of art gradually took center stage in her life. Sharing the transformation process from her literary roots to the art world with the viewers, she said, “When I started working with glass, I understood it wouldn’t just be a pastime. For me, it became like breathing.”

The Connection Between Glass and the Human Soul
Kökçü also highlighted the parallel she draws between the fragility of glass and the human soul in her works. According to her, the value of glass, much like the human soul, emerges with the care shown to it: “The value of glass is determined by the attention you give it. It responds to you based on how you approach it. Therefore, glass, like the human soul, deserves protection and delicate handling.”
Works That Draw Attention with the “Motherhood Collection”
In her work at FOV Concept, Kökçü not only shapes glass but has also ventured into sculpture. This process, which began with small attempts, gradually evolved into larger-scale works. The artist, who stands out particularly with her series called the “Motherhood Collection,” which explores the mother-child theme, presents a symbolic expression of family bonds, love, and belonging through the combination of glass and sculpture in these works.

Patience, Persistence, and Discipline in Art
Touching on the challenges of glass art, Kökçü emphasized the importance of discipline in artistic production, saying, “For me, there is no such thing as ‘difficult.’ There is only ‘not working hard enough.’ If you have patience, tolerance for sleeplessness, and belief, you can overcome every obstacle.” This perspective supports the meticulousness and attention to detail seen in her works.
The Importance of Education and Sharing
Arzu Kökçü has made it a priority not only to produce but also to share her knowledge. Through workshops offered at FOV Concept, she teaches students the intricacies of glass art. In curriculum-based training, participants begin producing their own works in a short time. Kökçü summarizes this process as follows: “My students become capable of making their own beads after one month. For me, sharing knowledge is as valuable as producing.”
The Language of Art: Literature
At the end of her talk, Kökçü emphasized that language lies at the foundation of art, stating, “Literature is the beginning of everything. Without words, there is nothing. Art is actually another language. With glass, sculpture, or stone… It’s possible to speak with all of them,” making a reference to both her past and her current artistic journey.

📍 The program “Eylül Aşkın ile…” continues to host valuable names producing in different fields of art and to present inspiring stories to viewers.
