About Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park:
Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park was established in 1993 in Darıca as Turkey’s first private zoo. It is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) and also continues its activities as the Marmara Region “Wild Animal Protection and Rescue Center”. In Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park, which continues its activities with the mission of protecting wildlife, conservation and breeding programs are implemented under the coordination of EAZA.
Ex-situ conservation programs ensure the protection and reproduction of endangered species outside their natural habitats. For this purpose, a total of 42 endangered species, including 26 critically endangered species and 6 Anatolian species, have been taken under protection in Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park.
In-situ conservation programs are conservation efforts carried out in natural habitats to protect endangered species from various dangers they face in nature. In this context, Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park contributes to the protection of species diversity in nature by supporting 7 conservation projects for the endangered Baringo Giraffe, Indian rhinoceros, African penguin, Red panda, Horned birds and Brown bears.
