Egeli Science Team continues to provide technological and innovative support to the leather industry
The research, development and innovation culture created at Ege University continues to turn into quality projects. Ege University Engineering Faculty Leather Engineering Department, which is the only one in its field in Turkey, continues to provide technological and innovative support to the leather industry in the national and international arena.
At Ege University, which is at the top of the universities that make the most projects in TUBITAK and whose projects are most accepted, Assoc. Dr. The project titled “Green Transformation and Sustainability in the Leather Industry: Developing Environmentalist Production Systems and Methods That Reducing the Use of Water and Chemicals Under Vacuum”, prepared by the faculty members of the department under the direction of Ersin Önem, was found eligible to be supported by the TÜBİTAK ARDEB-1001 project.
EU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak said, “Our University’s Leather Engineering Department is the only one in our country to provide education in this field and one of the leading higher education institutions in the international arena. Our department, which continues its studies interdisciplinary, leads the preparation of important projects for the leather industry of our country. It also provides technological and innovative support to the leather industry. Department of Leather Engineering faculty member Assoc. Dr. Under the direction of Ersin Önem, the project, which supports innovation and environmentally friendly production by reducing the amount of water and chemical substance use in the leather sector, was deemed suitable for support within the scope of TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 program. I congratulate the project team and wish the continuation of their success”.
Giving information about the project, Ege University Engineering Faculty Leather Engineering Department lecturer Assoc. Dr. Ersin Önem, on the other hand, said, “As part of the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 project, our project titled ‘Green Transformation and Sustainability in the Leather Industry: Developing Environmental-Friendly Production System and Methods That Reduce the Use of Water and Chemicals Under Vacuum’, which we presented with our Leather Engineering Department faculty members, was accepted with a budget of approximately 800 thousand TL. was done. Our main goal in the project is to produce leather under different pressure conditions and to reduce the amount of water and chemicals used in production. Thanks to the systems and production methods to be developed in the project, it will be possible to reduce the use of water in leather production by up to 70 percent and the use of chemicals by up to 50 percent compared to traditional methods. When the project, which is followed with great interest by the leather industry, comes to life, the environmentalist production process, whose pollution load and volume is minimized, and whose economic burden is considerably reduced, will be available to the leather industry.”
It is managed by Assoc. Dr. In the team of the project carried out by Ersin Önem, Ege University Leather Engineering Department faculty members Prof. Dr. Behzat Oral Bitlisli, Assoc. Dr. Onur Yilmaz, Assoc. Dr. Ali Yorgancıoğlu and Democracy University faculty member Assoc. Dr. Uğur Çavdar takes charge.
