With the initiative of Şişli Municipality, the commemoration program directed by actress, ballerina, and psychologist Filiz Coşkuner will take place on February 16, 2025, at Şişli Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center. This special event, honoring Ayla Algan, a legend of Turkish theater, and Prof. Dr. Doğan Cüceloğlu, one of Turkey’s most renowned psychologists, promises to present a unique fusion of art and psychology.

Filiz Coşkuner’s one-woman play, “Özveri,” staged since 2013, came to life under the direction of Ayla Algan. The play explores the psychological experiences of selfless individuals in society, leading the audience on a profound inner journey. After watching the play, Prof. Dr. Doğan Cüceloğlu noted how the psychological concepts he described in his works found expression on stage. As a result, the play was performed in a seminar format for a year. This is why, on the commemoration night, not only art but also psychology will take center stage.

Based on the idea that art is a mirror of society, this event is not just a commemoration but also a gathering for awareness. A special dance performance, dedicated to Ayla Algan’s rendition of “Bana Seni Gerek Seni” in four languages, will be presented to the audience via barcovision. Additionally, students and close acquaintances of Algan and Cüceloğlu will share their memories, adding an emotional depth to the evening.

Filiz Coşkuner’s unique theatrical method—a one-on-one discussion with the audience after the performance—will continue on this night. This interaction, often resembling a group therapy session, will focus primarily on psychology. Inspired by the themes of the Özveri play, the audience will reflect on the role and impact of selfless individuals in their lives, witnessing a fusion of art and psychology.
