Renowned musician, composer, producer, and DJ Mercan Dede, who blends Sufi music with ethnic instruments from the East and electronic music from the West, will perform alongside the esteemed artist of Turkish Folk Music, Sabahat Akkiraz, for the first time in a long time as part of the BKM Summer Events at Maximum Uniq Open Air.

Mercan Dede, one of the participating artists preparing to meet music lovers with a brand new project, commented on the joint concert they will perform:

About the Project:

“MERCAN DEDE ENSEMBLE” delicately blends the traditional Sufi music’s devotional tradition, specific to the East, with the sounds of contemporary music, combining the old and the new, the East and the West, predominantly through acoustic performances. Dede, known for his heartfelt dedication to Sufi beliefs, reflects the depth of Sufi maqams and the divine dimension he brings to the tones and rhythms of original compositions in his nameless music. Last year, Mercan Dede’s collaboration with the internationally acclaimed musician Ludovico Einaudi, where he reinterpreted 12 of Einaudi’s compositions, titled “Ludovico Einaudi, Mercan Dede Reimagined,” was released by Universal and received great acclaim in the music industry.

Sabahat Akkiraz has worked with figures such as Musa Eroğlu, Arif Sağ, Aşık Daimi, Davut Sulari, and Muhlis Akarsu, whom she refers to as her ‘masters,’ and she has predominantly performed her own collected folk songs, spiritual poems, and long instrumental compositions in her albums. In addition to her renditions, she also has hundreds of collected pieces in her archive.
