Bubi, one of the important figures in Turkish contemporary art, meets art enthusiasts at DG Art Project with the “RELIEF CAGES and SCULPTURES EXHIBITION”, curated by Zeynep ÖZTÜRK.

Bubi, who has held many solo exhibitions both domestically and internationally, showcases materials beyond the usual ones such as cardboard, cloth, rope, and waste products like rags in the exhibition curated by Zeynep ÖZTÜRK at DG Art Project from April 27 to June 27, 2023.

The primitive, wild weavings in his works, as well as the sometimes neatly constructed cages, can be seen as an indication of the artist’s multiple moods. Bubi, who says he doesn’t start working by thinking and planning, explains, “I suddenly concentrate during the production process. The work takes itself from that moment on. If I wake up, the works usually become muddy.”

Bubi, who strives to remain uneducated and away from conventional aesthetic concerns and civilization, is an artist who is other in both his social life and his production. Bubi combines recycling and sustainability in his works, reflecting all his emotions in his art. Curator Zeynep Öztürk says about Bubi, “There is a rebellion against monotony and order in Bubi’s works. He emphasizes the disorder within the order. He is an original and free artist in his art. There is an unseen order in every knot he makes. That’s why he doesn’t need a signature in his works.”

With the patterns in the fabrics, Bubi creates the rhythm of the work with the colors and the textural structure he uses. He creates this rhythm in a playful structure. Geometric searches, material patterns in details, thin-thick, large-small touches within the stillness trap the viewer inside the work. In this three-dimensional image, the viewer integrates with the artwork.

The exhibition, which opened at DG Art Project, can be visited until June 27, 2023.
