The 23rd International Frankfurt Turkish Film Festival, organized by the Intercultural Transfer Association, will meet cinema lovers for the 23rd time in Frankfurt from June 11 to 16, 2023.
Preparations for the 23rd International Frankfurt Turkish Film Festival, organized by the Hesse State Ministry of Culture and Integration, the Frankfurt Metropolitan Municipality, the Consulate General of Turkey in Frankfurt, and the Intercultural Transfer Association, are continuing uninterrupted in Frankfurt and Istanbul. The festival, which will take place from June 11 to 16, 2023, plans to offer its visitors a full week of cinema as it does every year.
A new category at the festival: Screenplay competition
Festival President Hüseyin Sıtkı, who announced the 23rd International Frankfurt Turkish Film Festival, for which competition applications have been completed, stated that the Hesse State Ministry of Culture and Integration, the Frankfurt Metropolitan Municipality, and the Consulate General of Turkey in Frankfurt are among the supporting institutions. He emphasized that in addition to the 11th Long Film Competition by German Cinematographers, the 4th National Documentary Film Competition, and the 15th Turkish and German Universities Short Film Competition, this year’s festival also received applications for the Screenplay Competition for the first time. Sıtkı underlined that this year, 38 Turkish and 24 German feature films, 116 documentaries, 65 short films from Turkish and German universities, and 18 projects for the first-ever screenplay competition were applied. Festival President Hüseyin Sıtkı announced that this year’s festival, which is held in partnership with Turkey’s project partner, the Turkish Cinema and Audiovisual Culture Foundation – TÜRSAK, includes “Long Film Competition,” “Inter-University Short Film Competition,” and “Documentary Film Competition” as well as the first-ever “Screenplay Competition.”
Collaboration is essential for the cinema industry to enter foreign markets!
Cemal Okan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Cinema and Audiovisual Culture Foundation – TÜRSAK, which supports many cultural and artistic events or is a project partner, expressed in his statement about the festival that it is essential to develop cooperation with national and international institutions and organizations operating in this field to improve the cinema industry and enter foreign markets.
The Republic of Turkey is 100 years old! “Republic and Cinema” Panel
This year, in addition to the preparations for the festival, a panel will be held on the theme of “Republic and Cinema” in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. The details of the panel, which will focus on the place and development of Turkish cinema in the Republic’s history, will be shared with the public shortly.
At the festival, where honorary, loyalty, 2022 audience, documentary, and short film awards will be presented on the opening night, the films competing will be evaluated by the main jury consisting of German and Turkish filmmakers. The GOLDEN APPLE awards will be presented to the winners on the closing night of the International Frankfurt Turkish Film Festival.
