The Soğanlı Urban Transformation Project, implemented by Osmangazi Municipality, has the distinction of being the first project realized with the vision of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ‘ground + 5 floors’ with 7 completed stages. While safe life continues in more than 3,000 earthquake-resistant residences built in the reserve area, robust and modern residences are rapidly increasing in the risky area.
Earthquake focused sample project; Bulbous
After the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that deeply affected Turkey, the importance of horizontal architecture was revealed once again, and the urbanization move initiated by the Osmangazi Municipality years ago set an example. Osmangazi Municipality’s exemplary urbanism move showed its difference in addition to modern residential and commercial areas in Soğanlı, the first project in which the ground + 5 floor plan, which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan considered ideal in construction, was implemented. With its infrastructure works, wide roads and pavements, market areas, green areas, parks and squares, sports facilities, social facilities and prayer areas, the region has become the center of modern urbanism.
A new city of approximately 12 thousand people has been established so far by the Osmangazi Municipality and the private sector in Soğanlı Mahallesi and its surroundings, the center of urban transformation studies in Osmangazi, one of the largest districts of Turkey.
Example project growing step by step
Osmangazi Mayor Mustafa Dündar, who stated that they have been working to build a safe, modern and planned city in Bursa, which is located in the earthquake zone, pointed out that the Soğanlı Urban Transformation Project is a model in terms of urbanism in Turkey.
Stating that they were the first municipality to implement the ground+5 floor plan pointed out by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Mayor Dündar said, “Our urban transformation project, which we started in Soğanlı with the ground+5 floor model, taking into account the earthquake reality, has grown and spread over a wide area. Our citizens living in risky buildings have started to live in more robust and modern buildings. The 8th phase of our exemplary urban planning project is currently underway in the risky area. The work we have done so far as the municipality has also mobilized the private sector. Our urban transformation project, which is an example for Turkey, is growing step by step and is spreading all over Osmangazi. With our urban transformation works, our Bursa, Osmangazi continues to renew and transform itself.”
