prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören: “The month of Ramadan is a month in which the Almighty Creator is always remembered”

There are days left until the month of Ramadan. Stating that the month of Ramadan is a month in which the supreme creator is remembered at every moment, Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören said that fasting is also teaching us what a precious blessing even a sip of water is, and how hunger causes distress for people. Noting that those who perform this prayer gain the ability to empathize with the poor and needy much more easily, Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören said, “The fasting person understands the value of the blessings they have; he does not waste them, the feeling of gratitude and gratitude to the one who gave the blessing is strengthened, and he realizes that he must help the needy.” said.

Üsküdar University Sufi Studies Institute faculty member Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören made an assessment about the upcoming Ramadan’s contribution to spirituality.

Öngören stated that Ramadan is a month in which individuals rest physically, mentally and spiritually, as well as fasting and worship, and said, “It is emphasized in the Qur’an that man consists of body and soul. Our body is shaped by the food in the world, and our soul comes from God. The desire of man to have some things in the world such as money, position, reputation, beautiful clothes and sweet food and to stay eternal is the desire of the body that comes from the earth. The desire to contact the metaphysical realm and finally to know and meet the creator is the soul’s desire. When death occurs, the body, with all its elements, blends into the place it came from, that is, the earth and the soil, while our immortal soul meets Allah. That’s why we refer to death as, as the Qur’an puts it, ‘We came from Allah and we return to Allah’. he said.

The world is the testing ground of man.

prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören said, “The world is the testing ground for man and it is temporary; It is a process of preparation for eternal life. According to the Hereafter, the brevity of this process was expressed by the Prophet as “the traveler resting for a while in the shade of the tree”. The beauties we experience in this process and the difficulties we face are also a test. It has been deemed necessary to be grateful for blessings and beauties, and to be patient with troubles and difficulties in order to pass the test.” said.

The basis of happiness is to always remember the supreme creator.

Stating that the main source of happiness and peace is always remembering the creator and always remembering him, Prof. Dr. Resat Öngören said:

“We need to keep this fact in mind at all times: We did not come into the world with our own will and will. It is God who gives us life and takes our souls. He also offered prescriptions for the happiness of the world and the hereafter to the people he created, through the prophets: According to this, the main source of happiness and peace is to keep in mind the creator and to continue to remember him in every situation and profit. Because Hz. Allah says, ‘Those who remember me find peace, and those who avoid remembrance of me live in distress’. As the Qur’an puts it, since everything in the universe remembers Allah, if a person stays away from remembrance of Allah, he enters a position of trying to navigate by rowing against the flow of water with a high flow rate, which makes him tired and exhausted. nor can it travel a barley length.”

Remembrance of Allah is not limited to certain forms.

Expressing that the upcoming Ramadan is a blessed month in which Allah is commemorated, Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören said, “There are countless forms of commemorating Allah. To express this, it is said that there are as many ways to God as there are breaths of creatures. Worship such as prayer and fasting are determined forms of remembrance of Allah, but remembrance of Allah is not limited to these forms. Remembering the creator by looking at the flowers on the ground or the stars in the sky while walking on the road is also a dhikr.” said.

We remember Allah uninterruptedly in Ramadan

Noting that he will fast on the orders of Allah in Ramadan, Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören said, “Now the month of Ramadan begins and we will fast. Why do we fast? Because God wanted it that way. Then, by starting the fast, we begin to remember Allah. We need to know that we remember Allah uninterruptedly until the time of iftar by avoiding eating and drinking from the time of sahur. As those who fast know very well, the peace and calmness of the soul that this worship gives to people is completely different. Especially as the time for iftar approaches, this peace reaches its peak. Fasting in Ramadan creates a separate synergy in the society because it is also collective dhikr and worship. Because “Allah’s hand is on those who act collectively (congregation). he said.

Fasting helps us to appreciate what we have.

Stating that fasting is also to teach us what a precious blessing even a sip of water is, on the other hand, it also teaches us how hunger causes distress for people. Dr. Reşat Öngören said, “Those who perform this worship gain the ability to empathize with the poor and needy much more easily. Fasting people understand the value of the blessings they have; he does not waste them, the feeling of gratitude and gratitude to the one who gave the blessing is strengthened, and he realizes that he must help the needy.” said.

Everyone can support as much as possible.

Reminding that there were major disasters such as earthquakes and floods in our country before Ramadan, Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören said, “These events are a test not only for those who experience it, but for all people. Let’s also know that Hz. God also gives us the strength to endure in the face of the troubles we experience. That’s why we have to overcome this test with patience, tolerance and acceptance (consent) of those who have suffered disaster, and others with help, support and solidarity in every way. Those who have the opportunity can be instrumental in finding peace with the help of money, goods and food, doctors with treatment, psychologists with psychological support, teachers with non-formal education programs, and clergy by appealing to their hearts.” he said.

“Human, Spirituality and Healing Talks” will begin in Ramadan

Öngören stated that as Üsküdar University Sufi Studies Institute instructors, they have prepared a program titled “Human, Spirituality and Healing Conversations” on the internet for 12 weeks, starting on the first day of Ramadan, and said, “Among the speakers, there are doctors, psychologists, writers, cultural historians. There are teachers from different specialties such as musicians, musicians and theologians. This program will be broadcast live, but it can also be listened to on the next day. Detailed information about this and the details of the program can be found on the institute’s website and social media accounts. The spiritual atmosphere of the month of Ramadan creates an opportunity for all of us in this time period when Allah’s forgiveness and mercy are at their peak. Those who have suffered disasters will benefit greatly from the blessings and blessings of this month by asking Allah for strength and patience, and by mobilizing all the material and spiritual resources that others have in their hands.” he said.
