Hibya hosted Furkan Akalpoğlu, the Founder of the Theatrical Mardin Group, in his studio.

In the broadcast, which took place in the air of conversation, the story of the establishment of the Theatrical Mardin Ensemble and the transfer of the local language and local attitude to the theater were discussed.

Akalpoğlu talked about the adventure of founding the Theatrical Mardin Ensemble and said, “We established the Ensemble with Metin Shoulders. I was not interested in theatre. I went to the theater club as a guest and was very impressed. Something broke inside of me. We are friends outside, yes, but on stage they take on a completely different personality. I was very impressed with it. We said, ‘Let’s join this club permanently, not as guests,’ and that’s how it started.” used the phrases.

Explaining that she played a female secretary in her first play, Nilgün Serimoğlu told Akalpoğlu, “You started with a prototype role, a wildcard role. Such extreme roles in theaters and operas are always a joker. You were lucky and brave at the same time.” said.

Stating that she received positive reactions for her role as the secretary she played, Akalpoğlu said, “We wanted to write sketches with Metin and represent them. We exhibited our first big show in 2009 at Atatürk Cultural Center within the body of Mardin Artuklu University. We had a play called ‘You Name It’, which consisted of about 12 skits.” she spoke.

Akalpoğlu stated that they covered various subjects in their plays and said, “We were passing in front of a park and came across a billboard. It was written on the billboard that all the people of Mardin were invited to a symposium. We know that the people of Mardin do not know the meaning of the word symposium. Metin came across me and became a reporter, and I asked questions to the character of Cafer Bacisigüzel, who was already in progress. Cafer also realized its evolution into compote. In this way, we continued with a skit called Cafer Bacisigüzel, and we became involved in various subjects. The legend of Cafer Bacisigüzel continues to this day. Nilgün Serimoğlu likened the sketches of Cafer Bacisigüzel to the plays of Aziz Nesin, “I guess the spirit of Aziz Nesin comes into play here. I was very curious about the Cafer sketch.” said.

Akalpoğlu noted the following about the sketch they adapted from the Shakespeare play:

“When the theater is mentioned, one of them comes to life in everyone’s mind. I also revived Shakespeare and if I had conveyed it as it was, maybe the people of Mardin would not have adopted it very much. The moment they saw something of themselves with Shakespeare, they were fascinated.”

Nilgün Serimoğlu said, “Mardin is a great source,” and said, “The movie Kapi, in which Kadir İnanır played, is a great thing lately. Many TV series were shot in Mardin. They were interesting.” used the phrases.

Akalpoğlu mentioned that the TV series shot increased the popularity of Mardin and said, “I think these TV series harm the culture of Mardin. Far from Mardin culture. Mardin is a very ancient city. Various cultures lived together in Mardin.” he said.

Stating that the aim of the theatrical Mardin Group is to keep and preserve the culture, language and religion of Mardin, Akalpoğlu said, “We are getting very good results. Our decor and costume completely belong to that culture. We take care to promote our various local dishes in every game.” said.

Expressing that their new plays will be staged in the spring, Akalpoğlu said, “There will be a continuation of the Hamam sketch. We wrote our hammam sketch. We have a few more sketches.” he said.

Stating that the pandemic has lost many things and taught people about digital platforms, Nilgün Serimoğlu said, “We, who are members of the jury and do not want to break away from the art life, watched the games online.” she said.
