The 42nd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of YASED International Investors Association was held in Istanbul with the participation of President of the Presidential Investment Office Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu. In the General Assembly, the members of the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Board for the new term of the association were determined. At the first meeting of the new Board of Directors, Engin Aksoy, CEO of Vodafone Turkey, was elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Tofaş CEO and Member of the Board of Directors Cengiz Eroldu were elected as the Deputy Chairman, and SOCAR Turkey Energy CEO (by proxy) Elchin Ibadov, Coca-Cola Soft Drinks General Manager Başak Karaca and Acwa Power General Manager Selim Güven.
In his speech at the YASED General Assembly, President of the Presidential Investment Office Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu said, “I would like to express my condolences to all of our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquakes that took place on February 6, and my condolences to their relatives and our nation. We sincerely thank all our investors, especially YASED members, who provided assistance in cash and in kind, went to the field with their employees and took part in voluntary activities.
In the past period, we have encountered many uncertainties that upset the global economy and balances, from the global epidemic to supply-demand shocks, from the signs of global recession to the war in our region. In all these processes, we have seen the invaluable support of YASED. I would like to thank Ayşem Hanım, with whom I was pleased to work with during her presidency, for her efforts in bringing international direct investment to our country. I wish the YASED General Assembly to be beneficial and congratulate the new management. We believe that we will carry our country’s FDI performance further by continuing to strengthen our strategic partnership in the new period. Despite many uncertainties and stagnation in the global investment environment, Turkey has attracted more than $250 billion in FDI in 20 years with its value propositions such as a strong talent pool, production potential, logistics infrastructure, strategic location and convenient access to global markets. In 2022, it attracted 13 billion dollars of investment. On the one hand, our early-stage startups continued their record in 2021, attracting $1.6 billion in investment from international funds. Our exports reached 255 billion dollars. Under the leadership of our President Mr. Erdogan, we will continue to work together with great devotion for a more sustainable Turkey in the new century of our Republic, together with all stakeholders who create value for our country.” said.
Aysem Sargın, Boeing Turkey General Manager and Country Representative, who has been successfully serving as YASED Chairman of the Board for two terms, said, “We are deeply saddened by the earthquake disaster in our country. Once again, we wish mercy to those who lost their lives in the earthquake and express our condolences to our nation.” Mentioning that YASED members have mobilized all their resources to meet the needs of the earthquake area, Sargın said, “We are aware that the recovery of the earthquake-affected region is a long and difficult process, and as YASED, we are determined to continue to contribute to the process in the coming period as well.” Referring to YASED’s activities in his speech, Sargın said, “In this period when the world is going through a transformation and investment competitiveness criteria are being redefined, it is extremely important for Turkey to give investments the priority they deserve and to rapidly implement the Turkey International Direct Investment Strategy, which was prepared under the leadership of the Presidential Investment Office.” Sargın added, “As YASED, we are ending a new era with the same desire and motivation, with our belief in the benefit of our work. I wish success to our new Board of Directors.”
Indicating that he is very honored and pleased to be the Chairman of YASED in the new term, Vodafone Turkey Chief Executive Officer Engin Aksoy said: “Our members, each of whom is among the world leaders in their sectors; They play a major role in national development with their significant contributions to production, employment, exports and technological development. Being the representative and spokesperson of these valuable brands, which connect our country to global supply chains and increase our share in the world investment and trade volume day by day, is a separate source of pride for YASED and me. In this period when we are trying to manage many uncertainties and negativities at the global level, we have confidence in our country’s values, qualified manpower, logistics advantages and production ability, despite all the difficulties we experience. YASED works to improve the investment environment in Turkey, to increase the international competitiveness of our country, and to realize sustainable economic and social development by putting forth its knowledge and experience. In the upcoming period, we will continue to improve the business and investment environment in our country, with a stronger will and increasing activities.”
